Mazinga

Ann Arbor, MI-based Mazinga pulls its inspiration from garage area punk and comic books, taking part in inside a self-dubbed design of “optimum cosmic punk.” Created in 1995, the music group (who consider their name from a Japanese toon robot) have performed regionally and released some 7″s and an recording, 1999’s self-titled Mazinga, through little indie brands Reanimator and Spasthmatic. Sounding like punk pioneers MC5 and Radio Birdman, Mazinga features fast tempos, dissonant acoustic guitar function, and argy-bargy concert events. In 2001, drummer Don Blum remaining the band to become listed on the Detroit-based Von Bondies and was changed by Mike O’Reilly the next year. The music group break up briefly in 2003 before reforming in 2006 with fresh drummer Alex Ruler. An EP, Curses of one thousand Dying Suns!, was released later on that same 12 months.
