Pilot

Scottish soft rock-band Pilot was shaped in 1973 by David Paton (bass and vocals), Billy Lyall (synthesizer, flute, and vocals), and Stuart Tosh (drums). They added several members on the way, including two chaps who have been former associates of teeny boppers the Bay Town Rollers, plus program guitarist Ian Bairnson, before issuing their self-titled debut in 1974. The recording spawned a high 20 strike with “Magic,” nonetheless it was their 1975 solitary “January,” off their sophomore work Second Trip, that became the biggest achievement from the group’s whole profession, rocketing to the main place. Further albums adopted (1976’s Morin Heights and 1977’s Two’s a Group), as do some more moderate-sized strike singles (“Contact Me Circular,” “Only a Smile”) before Pilot folded. Tosh quickly resurfaced within 10cc, as both Paton and Bairnson focused on studio function, playing on Kate Bush’s 1978 debut, The Kick Inside, in addition to on recordings for Alan Parsons, who got produced their 1st, second, and 4th albums. Lyall released a solo recording, Single Casting (which presented his fellow Pilot bandmates), and later on became a member of the group Buck, before loss of life in Dec of 1989 from an AIDS-related disease. Paton and Bairnson came back in 2002 with Blue Yonder. Twelve years later on, they brought Tosh back to the fold to get a Pilot Task: A Go back to the Alan Parsons Task — a couple of covers documented in tribute to Parsons’ innovative partner Eric Woolfson.
