Monty Alexander

Monty Alexander way back when combined collectively the impact of Oscar Peterson using the spirit of Gene Harris and Nat “Ruler” Cole to create his own appealing and personable design. Long a little underrated (because of the darkness of Peterson), Alexander offers recorded greater than a rating of superb albums. Monty Alexander started piano lessons when he was six and he performed expertly in Jamaican night clubs while still an adolescent; his music group, Monty as well as the Cyclones, was very popular locally during 1958-1960. He 1st played within the U.S. when he made an appearance in NEVADA with Artwork Mooney’s Orchestra. Quickly he was associated a number of best singers, created a companionship with vibraphonist Milt Jackson, and started gigging with bassist Ray Dark brown. With the documenting of a set of Pacific Jazz albums in 1965, an RCA day in 1967, along with a Verve program in 1969, Alexander started to gain a solid reputation. His group of fascinating albums for MPS during 1971-1977 discovered him in perfect type, and his recordings within the ’80s, ’90s, and 2000s discovered him building on his unique design. Alexander, who frequently will pay tribute to his Jamaican history, performs regularly along with his personal trio and swings hard in his personal voice.
