Maximum Balloon may be the part project of maker/TV on the air founding member David Sitek. Sitek’s motivation came after shifting from NY to California; to make the Golden Condition’s notoriously lengthy commutes a bit more enjoyable, he produced mixes of songs by Prince, Cyndi Lauper, Chic, and additional Nile Rodgers productions to hear in his car, and their impact seeped in to the songs he was producing. To complement the eclectic experience of what he was documenting, Sitek collaborated with many vocalists, including TVOTR’s Tunde Adebimpe and Kyp Malone, Small Dragon’s Yukumi Nagano, Holly Miranda, and Dragons of Zynth’s Aku. Aku sang on Optimum Balloon’s debut one “Tiger,” that was released June 2010 and received a unforgettable video treatment offering model Daisy Lowe. The paths “Groove Me,” “Youthful Like,” and “IN THE EVENT THAT YOU Return” followed prior to the release of Optimum Balloon’s self-titled debut record, which came that September.
