Mark Vinci

Although highly regarded by Woody Herman (who called him “the final from the Four Brothers”) and Benny Carter, and a solid hard bop-based improviser, Tag Vinci is definately not children name as of this writing. He began on piano when he was five, turned to sax 2 yrs later on. At 11, Vinci was operating as a specialist (having already became a member of the union and began gigging locally). The next yr he was a soloist using the Ohio All-Star SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Music group. When he was 16, and going to a Stan Kenton summer season center, Vinci was informed by Kenton that whenever he was old he would join his music group. Unfortunately, Kenton passed away before which could happen. He went to Bowling Green Condition University on the bassoon scholarship, used Marian McPartland and quickly used in North Texas Condition University to get a year. After coming back home, Vinci became a member of the Glenn Miller Ghost Orchestra with whom he toured for just two and one-half years. When he arrived off the street, he performed in Cleveland for a couple weeks with organist Eddie Baccus and joined up with Woody Herman’s Thundering Herd, sticking to Herman for just two years (1981-83). Vinci resolved in NY and freelanced, using many top music artists like the Gerry Mulligan Orchestra, Mel Lewis’ Vanguard Orchestra, Joe Lovano and Rosemary Clooney, having possibilities to sit along with Benny Carter and Zoot Sims. After becoming the business lead altoist with Maria Schneider’s Jazz Orchestra for five years, he became a member of John Fedchock’s NY Big Band. Like a innovator, Mark Vinci offers recorded for Smooth Kitty and Iris (1995’s Grand Slam and 1998’s As I BELIEVE About You). Furthermore, he is around the faculty of Skidmore University and the brand new School in NEW YORK.
