Created in 2000 in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood by friends and music obsessives Dan Barone and Susannah Bailis, Lorelei began using a radically unconventional instrumental approach (two basses, period), added a drummer in Thad Kellstadt, and became a rock-band. The three began gigging in early wintertime 2001, and by June of this year had documented their debut EP. It had been a good, sexy, breathless affair, with Bailis and Barone switching off on high-low bass and business lead vocals, Bailis’ staccato affectation betraying her admiration for the Pacific Northwest’s Eliminate Rock Stars steady of rings, with Barone’s special, soulful voice a highly effective contrast. It had been good enough to have the band on the Kill Rock Superstars compilation. Our Thoughts HAVE ALREADY BEEN Electrified implemented in past due 2002.
