Juice Leskinen

Juice Leskinen (b. Pauli Matti Juhani “Juice” Leskinen) — Feb 19, 1950-November 24, 2006) was a Finnish nationwide treasure. He was perhaps one of the most prominent and well-known songwriters in his indigenous nation, but he was also a vocalist, poet, writer, translator, columnist and reporter, among a great many other stuff. If you talk to any Finn his preferred melody by Juice (pronounced “YU-e-ce”), the choices are as mixed as his profession. He documented almost 30 albums between 1973 and 2005; 16 of the went silver, and two reached platinum level. He documented mostly of the modern Christmas music that just about any Finn understands, “Sika” (“Pig”), a deadpan and amusing take on vacation excesses. Leskinen started his recording profession in the first ’70s with Mikko Alatalo and Harri Rinne in the music group Coitus Int. His early music was funny, rowdy rock and roll & roll, documented on Juice Leskinen & Coitus Int (1973) and Per Vers, Runoilija (“Per Vers, the Poet,” 1974). After both of these albums Coitus Int folded, though Juice documented a joint recording with Mikko Alatalo entitled Juice ja Mikko (“Juice and Mikko,” 1975). His potential recordings will be documented with various rings and lineups, categorised as either Juice Leskinen Slam or Juice Leskinen Grand Slam, a name he retired in 1991. He originally had some problems finding approval for his thematically critical music after his early recordings, but music like “Syksyn Sävel” (“Fall Melody”), “Viidestoista Yö” (“The Fifteenth Evening”) and “Musta Aurinko Nousee” (“Dark Sun Goes up”) discovered their way in to the hearts and thoughts of just about any Finn. Some exceptionally well-known recordings implemented on albums like Keskitysleirin Ruokavalio (“Focus Camp Diet plan,” 1976) and XV Yö — Tauko III (“XV Evening — Pause III,” 1980). In the past due ’70s, Juice was followed in to the punk and brand-new wave actions and famously toured with Hassisen Kone and Eppu Normaali in the lake region of Finland, not really using a bus but using a sail boat. The tour was filmed by budding filmmakers Mika Kaurismäki and Aki Kaurismäki, and a film from the tour, Saimaa-Ilmiö (“The Saimaa-Gesture”), premiered in 1981, documenting an integral period in the delivery of punk rock and roll in Finland. Leskinen’s initial book, Kuka Murhasi Rock and roll ‘n’ Move Tähden? (“Who Killed the Rock and roll ‘n’ Roll Superstar?”), appeared in 1979, and his Finnish translation of Tag Shipper’s book over the Beatles, Paperback Article writer, followed in 1981. A few of his finer albums, like Ajan Henki (“Heart of this,” 1981) and Pyromaani Palaa Rikospaikalle (“The Pyromaniac Profits towards the Scene from the Criminal offense,” 1986), are out of this period. Afterwards albums, like Haitaribussi (“The Accordion Bus,” 1993) and L (2000) offered reasonably, but Juice got already started focusing on his composing, publishing takes on, poetry, children’s books and an autobiography. He also translated Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd in 1997 to great achievement. His final studio room recording was a fresh recording with Mikko Alatalo, Juice & Mikko: Senaattori ja Boheemi (“The Senator as well as the Bohemian,” 2004). It had been warmly received and a installing closure to an extended and illustrious profession. Juice was under no circumstances known for his performing voice (that was slim at greatest) or his appears, but instead for his excellent turns of term, his jovial puns and his knack for melodies. Like Loudon Wainwright or Randy Newman, his tracks add the hysterically funny towards the deeply melancholic, and he was as more likely to translate and cover the Kinks’ “Celluloid Heroes” as he was to create fun of structured religious beliefs. His anti-authoritarian undertake existence was as necessary to his composing as had been his personal excesses by means of consuming and smoking cigarettes. The ’70s and ’80s had been Leskinen’s most effective period, but his faltering health, due to his life-style, didn’t prevent him from carrying out until his loss of life in past due 2006.
