Jarman had not been thus accomplished a saxophonist while his reed-playing partner in the Artwork Outfit of Chicago, Roscoe Mitchell. Jarman led his personal group from 1966-1968, including bassist Charles Clark, drummer Thurman Barker, and pianist Christopher Gaddy, amongst others. In 1967, Lester Bowie documented Figures 1 & 2 for Nessa; on “2,” the four music artists who would end up being the Artwork Outfit (Bowie, Mitchell, Mementos, and Jarman) documented together for the very first time.
