Hi-Tension

This British funk group started as Hott Waxx in the first ’70s before becoming Hi-Tension. Business lead vocalist, principal songwriter, and keyboardist David Joseph, bassist Ken Joseph, guitarist Paul Phillips, percussionist Jeff Guishard, saxophonist Paul McLean, drummers David Reid and Paapa Mensah, trumpeter Man Barker, trombonist Peter Thomas, and saxophonists Bob Sydor and Ray Alan Eko had been the initial lineup. Despite having a lively, sometimes catchy audio, they never produced much effect on American shores, although these were quite effective in Britain. “Hi-Tension” and “United kingdom Hustle” had been big British dance strikes in the past due ’70s. They resurfaced with an changed lineup in the middle-’80s on Streetwave. Ken Joseph, Leroy Williams, and Jeff Guishard attempted to rekindle the sparks but didn’t make very much headway with a set of singles in 1984 and 1985.
