Gwen Verdon

Created Gwyneth Evelyn Verdon on January 13, 1925, in Culver Town, CA, she started tap dance in theater while a small kid. Cole Porter employed her for the 1950 Broadway musical Alive and Kicking. In 1953, she made an appearance in Porter’s Can Can. The part brought Verdon a Tony Award. Teaming with Bob Fosse, she starred in the strike musical Damn Yankees, which opened up in springtime 1955 and gained her another Tony. Another Fosse play, Redhead helped rating Verdon another Tony. She could be noticed on a number of the play’s soundtracks released: Lovely Charity, Damn Yankees, Chicago, Redhead, Broadway Broads: There’s Nothin Just like a Dame, Celebrate Broadway,Vol. 10: THE VERY BEST Musicals, Broadway Super Hits, Vol. 2, New Woman around, Broadway Sings the Blues: Party’s Over, and Broadway’s Good Ladies. She is seen in the films Cocoon as well as the Jerk, As well. At age 75, Gwen Verdon passed away in NY on Oct 18, 2000.
