George Gee & His Make-Believe Ballroom Orchestra

b. 31 March 1960, NEW YORK, NY, USA. Of Chinese language and American parentage, Gee had taken an early curiosity about music and even though he loved R&B and rock and roll ‘n’ move, he found a particular affinity with big music group music from the 30s and 40s. While still going to senior high school, Gee performed bass within the college’s jazz music group. In his 1st yr at Carnegie Mellon College or university in Pittsburgh, Pa, he started broadcasting like a disk jockey on the faculty radio train station, basing and naming his display after Martin Stop’s 30s Make-Believe Ballroom radio program. A chance to interview Count number Basie also to listen to the music group live resulted in his decision to create a big music group, which he called the Make-Believe Ballroom Orchestra.
