Smith initial produced his name over the Atlanta music picture as an associate from the indie rock and roll rings Paper Lions plus some Soviet Place, citing bands just like the PARTY and Get Like Jehu as early inspirations, but he became dissatisfied using their innovative direction, so that as he informed journalist Chad Radford, “I recall in ’98 I believed I should have a look at MC5.
