Dave Bargeron

b. 6 Sept 1942, Athol, Massachusetts, USA. An essential component of a number of important jazz organizations, Dave Bargeron’s trombone offers made an appearance on recordings by Johnny Griffin (3 Dances Of Enthusiasm), Michel Camilo (YET ANOTHER Once), Gerry Mulligan (Re-Birth FROM THE Great) and Kilometers Davis / Quincy Jones (Live At Montreux). It had been me which unwieldy trombone that I needed to cover around a post more often than not. Can you envisage having this music work around in your mind, your spirit, your center, for 30 or 40 years, rather than have the ability to play it?’ It had been only once he developed what he phone calls the Bargeron Articulating Valve Choice (or BRAVO) – a particular valve for his trombone’s mouthpiece – that he found himself in a position to express himself as a genuine soloist on his device. This release arrived by means of Barge Burns up… Slide Flies, documented with Larry Willis (ex-Blood, Perspiration And Tears) on piano, Kenwood Dennard on drums and Steve Novosel on bass. It presented several initial compositions, some compiled by Bargeron among others by Willis, in addition to one regular, ‘There IS NOT ANY Greater Like’. Bargeron in addition has documented with Howard Johnson’s Gravity and Michel Godard.
