Danny Alvin had an extended career performing drums in lots of traditional jazz organizations. The daddy of guitarist Teddy Walters, Alvin’s 1st major job arrived using Sophie Tucker at Reisenweber’s in NY in 1919. He shifted to Chicago in the first ’20s, after that divided his time taken between there and NY. Alvin performed and documented with such greats as Sidney Bechet, George Brunis, Buck Clayton, Crazy Expenses Davison, Wingy Manone, Joe Marsala, Artwork Hodes, Mezz Mezzrow and George Zack. His legacy like a innovator is slim, along with his greatest release being truly a 1958 program for Stepheny.
