Clarence Fountain

Clarence Fountain was among the founding users of the initial Five Blind Kids of Alabama, an organization which was formed when he was a 12-year-old college student in the Talladega Institute for the Deaf and Blind in Alabama. The group, which drew most of its users from the institution, was originally referred to as the Content Land Jubilee Performers. They produced their 1st recordings in 1948 after implementing their long term name and experienced a recording profession that prolonged over a far more than 60-yr period. Fountain broke using the group in 1969 to pursue a single career and documented two albums with Jewel, after that rejoined the group in 1980. In 1983 the group performed because the chorus within the Obie-winning version of the Sophocles play, The Gospel at Colonus, and continuing to regenerate their roles for the reason that play many times in the next years. Fountain continuing to record for Jewel within the ’90s, in addition to issuing compilations of his focus on a number of labels. Dealing with fellow Blind Kids’ alumnus Sam Butler (Fountain experienced in fact mentored Butler within the group), Fountain and Butler released the beautiful UPGRADING & Stepping Out recording, an emotionally well balanced group of both gospel and secular figures, on Solomon Burke’s Tyscot Information in ’09 2009.
