Alex Riel

b. Alex Poul Riel, 13 Sept 1940, Copenhagen, Denmark. After drum lessons in his teenagers, Riel started using regional trad jazz rings within the 50s. He shortly shifted to contemporary jazz and became the home drummer on the Montmatre Jazzhus, Copenhagen (1963-65). He spent a short while on the Berklee University Of Music in 1966. Although he was using Danish Radiojazzgruppen (1965-68), he previously become very focused on free of charge jazz and caused saxophonists John Tchicai and Archie Shepp and bass participant Gary Peacock. He produced a quintet with Palle Mikkelborg, which gained first prize on the Montreux International Jazz Celebration (1968), and played Newport. On the other hand, he was using rock and roll group Savage Roses (1968-72). Within the 70s he co-led an organization known as V8 with Mikkelborg and it has since freelanced throughout European countries.
