Claude Ballif

Ballif studied with Messiaen in the Paris Conservatoire. His theoretical function Intro ? la métatonalité consists of his advancement of something that enlarges tonality instead of evades it, as with atonality. Metatonality is situated upon a level of 11 shades and indicates chromaticism and a tonal foundation at exactly the same time. For Ballif, the thing is in order to avoid the disorientation of atonality, changing it rather with a free of charge tonality. Ballif also includes sounds from the surroundings in his compositions, such as the task of John Cage. Included in these are the orchestral mimicking of organic sounds.
