Tyrone Birkett

Tyrone Birkett is a modern jazz saxophonist who leans heavily toward his root base in gospel music. Blessed in 1959, being a youngsters in the Bronx, NEW YORK, he went to the Holiness Cathedral and was motivated with the music noticed there. While learning the saxophone starting at age group ten, he was hearing Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, and Grover Washington, Jr., aswell simply because jazz fusion pioneers Herbie Hancock and Climate Survey but was even more profoundly inspired by dark gospel symbols. He started discovering the legacy of Thomas A. Dorsey, Edwin Hawkins, and Andrae Crouch, among numerous others. Concurrently he was thinking about the spirit music of Stevie Question and disco music of that time period. By age group 15 he was executing on the St. Peters Lutheran Cathedral, gained his high school’s Louis Armstrong prize and scholarship, arrived on the Aaron Copland College of Music, and was eventually mentored by jazz saxophone legends Budd Johnson and Frank Foster. Acquiring these lessons to center, he was a sideman for Lonnie Plaxico and Small Richard, caused Randy Brecker and Barbra Streisand, and produced his band along with his wife, vocalist Paula Ralph-Birkett. He do AIDS recognition and NBA Cares tumor advantage concerts, was a contributor towards the film Happy offering Ossie Davis, and released his single task In the Fullness of Amount of time in 2006.
