Todd Phillips has revolutionized the function from the bass in bluegrass music. A founding member, alongside Tony Grain, Darol Anger and Joe Carroll, from the innovative David Grisman Quintet, Phillips has truly gone to play with such intensifying rings as J.D. Crowe & THE BRAND NEW South, Psychograss, Montreaux, The Bluegrass Record Music group and Kathy Kallick’s Small Big Music group. A five period champion of the visitors’ poll executed by Frets mag along with a two-time Grammy champion, Phillips continues to be as effective a jazz bassist as he’s playing bluegrass. Phillips’ three single albums WITHIN THE Pines, Released and TIMEFRAME — have combined influences which range from Costs Monroe to Mls Davis and John Coltrane. Phillips’ initial device was the electrical bass, which he started playing at age eleven. By age fifteen, Phillips was proficient more than enough on the device to create his documenting debut. During his mature year of senior high school, Phillips became enchanted by bluegrass and jazz and turned towards the acoustic, stand-up, bass. Immediately after conference mandolinist David Grisman, Phillips started taking lessons in the mandolin. Jam periods on Grisman’s back again porch soon progressed in to the Grisman Quintet. Phillips continued to be using the group for five years. As well as Tony Grain, Bobby Hicks, Doyle Lawson and J.D. Crowe, Phillips released The Bluegrass Record Music group in 1980. Phillips was also a founding person in Montreaux and Psychograss. Furthermore to playing bass on a lot more than fifty recordings, Phillips created two albums by Kathy Kallick. Since 1995, Phillips spent some time working, alongside guitarist John Reissman, in Kallick’s Small Big Music group; in 1999, he teamed with guitarist David Grier and mandolininst Matt Flinner for Phillips, Grier & Flinner.
