Thomas Søndergård

While Thomas Søndergård established fact for his incisive interpretations of orchestral functions by composers from his local Denmark, he has demonstrated flexibility in a wide selection of repertory, including music by Beethoven, Brahms, Dvorák, Mahler, Sibelius, Ravel, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, and many more. Søndergård’s Danish repertory consumes much modern music, specifically functions by Poul Ruders, Per Nørgård, and Bent Lorentzen. Among energetic conductors Søndergård is usually one of fairly few who are experienced in percussion overall performance. (Simon Rattle could very well be the most known example.) Thomas Søndergård was created in Holstebro, Denmark, in 1969. From 1989-1992, he researched percussion under Gert Mortensen on the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. During his pupil years Søndergård offered as percussionist in the London-based EU Youth Orchestra, an exercise ensemble that frequently tours throughout European countries. From 1992, Søndergård offered as timpanist using the Royal Danish Orchestra.
