The Wake

Hailing from Columbus, OH, the Wake appears like they were elevated from the Sisters of Mercy. It isn’t an unfair assessment: the Wake, no regards to the early-’80s English band from the same name, possess the Sisters of Mercy’s gloomy riffs, icy keyboards, and apocalyptic vocals flourishing from their loudspeakers. It might actually shock some gothic rock and roll fans that it is not Andrew Eldritch leading the group. The Wake released their debut recording, Masked, on Cleopatra Information in 1994. Much like the Sisters of Mercy, the band’s danceable Halloween music got in the night clubs. After liberating an EP of tracks remixed by Rosetta Rock, the Wake started to incorporate commercial rhythms to their gothic method. Nine Ways adopted in 1996.
