The Developments — never to be confused using the mid-’60s Liverpool/Merseybeat act — were among the Chicago soul vocal groups signed to ABC-Paramount through arranger/producer Johnny Pate. Pate created strikes for the label on Curtis Mayfield as well as the Impressions. Hailing through the city’s west aspect, its members had been Emmett Gardner Jr., Tom Dorsey, Carolyn Dorsey, Jerome Johnson, Eddie Dunn, and Ralph O’ Neal. In 1964, they started documenting for Smash, a Mercury Information imprint. 2 yrs later, Pate agreed upon the Trends plus they released seven singles including “Big Parade” b/w “Spirit Clap,” “Don’t Drop Out of College,” “Under no circumstances Too Youthful to Cry,” and “Verify My Tears.” They never really had any nationally charting singles. Gardner continued to truly have a longer profession in the music business being a manufacturer and an archive promoter before loss of life in the ’80s.
