The Jelly Roll Kings

The Jelly Move Kings certainly are a trio of state-of-the-art Mississippi Delta bluesmen who play their music raw and unvarnished, filled with lilting rhythms, dreamily atmospheric keyboards, dance-shuffle drums, and soul-drenched vocals. Led by guitarist Big Jack port Johnson, the music group contains two veterans from the Delta juke joint picture — Frank Frost on keyboards and harmonica, and Sam Carr, the kid of renowned blues musician Robert Nighthawk, on drums. Johnson, the group’s guitarist, key songwriter and business lead vocalist, may be the youngest from the three. Carr started dance at his father’s gigs when he was eight and afterwards used drums. Harmonica participant and keyboardist Frank Frost’s history includes playing electric guitar for Sonny Youngster Williamson II, documenting in Nashville with Elvis Presley guitarist Scotty Moore, and launching his own record in the Appaloosa label, Frank Frost with Freddie as well as the Screamers, in 1992. Frost also documented an record for the United kingdom Charly label, Frank Frost, Jelly Move Ruler: Charly Blues Masterworks Vol. 36. The Jelly Move Kings have documented one record for system.drawing.bitmap Possum/Capricorn label, 1997’s Off Yonder Wall structure. Produced by writer/impresario Robert Palmer, the record does an excellent job of recording the complicated interplay between Johnson, Carr and Frost. The documenting is suitably organic and stripped down, with an extraordinary live membership sound to it. The trio places a brand new spin on outdated familiar blues criteria like “That’s Alright Mama” and “Baby DO NOT Proceed,” while their originals stay accurate to the soul of 1990s-period Delta juke joint blues. The effect is among the most unique-sounding albums of the entire year.
