The Ideals

The Ideals were an R&B vocal group from Chicago, IL, whose “Kissing” single on Satellite television was a high 40 R&B hit in early 1966. Shaped in 1952 by learners from Crane SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, the group included Reggie Jackson, Leonard Mitchell, Sam Stewart, and Robert Tharp. For a short while the group included Main Lance (“Monkey Period,” “Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um,” “Hey LITTTLE LADY”). The group’s initial single was released by the neighborhood Paso label in 1961. A year or two afterwards, Eddie Williams became a member of and sang lead on “Gorilla,” an individual for the Concord label that capitalized for the dance trend from the same name. By 1965, the Ideals contains the trio of Jackson, Mitchell, and Stewart and have scored their just charting one, “Kissing,” released with the Satellite television Recording Business. Another one, “You Shed and I Earned,” a doo-wopish ballad, was released. Immediately after, the group split up. Tharp assumed the name Tommy Dark and became a member of with fellow Chicagoan Jerry Murray to create Tom and Jerrio. The duo got a 1965 Best 20 R&B strike with “Boo-Ga-Loo” on ABC-Paramount.
