The Alleykatz

The Alleykatz were among five Belfast groups included on the 1966 Ember Information LP compilation Ireland’s Greatest Sounds: Five Top Organizations from Belfast’s Maritime Golf club. Included on that recording was their unremarkable cover of “Chicago Phoning,” a piano-rooted blues compiled by English blues pioneer Cyril Davies. The sound was slim too, but a minimum of provide them with credit in this respect: virtually all English R&B covers had been of American tunes, and “Chicago Phoning” displayed a rare example when a English blues designer was interpreted. The monitor continues to be reissued around the Big Defeat compilation Belfast Defeat Maritime Blues, an anthology of middle-’60s songs by Belfast organizations.
