Tangerine Zoo

Boston psychedelic music group the Tangerine Zoo formed in 1967 in nearby Swansea, MA. Guitarist Robert “Benny” Benevides, bassist Tony Taveira, and drummer Donald Smith initial collaborated in the Ebb Tides, that your previous year released “My Baby’s Eliminated” in the Arco label. Using the enhancements of vocalist/guitarist Wayne Gagnon and keyboardist Ronald Medeiros, the group renamed itself the Bloom Container, abandoning the Ebb Tides’ garage area rock sound and only a far more psychedelic approach. Furthermore to offering as the home band at the neighborhood Venus de Milo cafe, the music group also opened up for famous brands the Jimi Hendrix Knowledge, Truck Morrison, and Deep Crimson. Their growing reputation was buoyed by a big group of fans in Boston, and in past due 1967 agreed upon with the brand new York City-based Mainstream label. While documenting their debut LP, label execs demanded another name modification, fearing backlash from the most obvious marijuana guide in the Bloom Container moniker; after placing in the Tangerine Zoo, the group released its self-titled debut in early 1968. Taveira exited the lineup ahead of documenting the follow-up, Outdoors Searching In. In middle-1969, the Tangerine Zoo was asked to try out the Woodstock celebration, but were compelled to decline because of prior commitments. The music group dissolved in 1970, with Gagnon shortly resurfacing in Wadsworth Mansion, which scored a Billboard TOP strike with 1971’s “Special Mary.” The initial Tangerine Zoo lineup reunited in 1988 to try out a charity fundraiser, intermittently reconvening through the decades that implemented.
