Syvia

Brooklyn-based indie rock quartet Syvia started as the single project of Norwegian-American singer/songwriter Ruth Syvia Mirsky. Previously an associate from the Drums and What What Where, she struck from her very own in 2011 and documented her initial EP, the Nordic synth-pop Unloveable, with Simone Ghetti. For the follow-up, she turned gears, enlisting bassist Sheldon Chow, guitarist Frank Banisi, and drummer Richard Moyle to circular out a complete rock-band. After releasing a set of singles — “Two Homes” in 2013 and “Shortly” in 2014 — Syvia released their first genuine LP, FWD, in 2015. Keeping a number of the glimmering synth from Unloveable, FWD shifted the group’s audio from the pop range, making a crunchy mixture of early Metric and Interpol. Under the changing designs and a dark post-punk veneer, Mirsky’s tone of voice remains the shiny constant. Their tracks would continue to be highlighted in several television shows, just like the Vampire Diaries, Stitchers, 666 Recreation area Avenue, and Marvel’s Real estate agents of S.H.We.E.L.D. In 2016, they released the Silent Assault EP, which highlighted the fuzzy shoegaze “Anxious Pets.”
