Rick Margitza

Among the “adolescent lions,” Rick Margitza is a superb tenor saxophonist most inspired by Wayne Shorter, Michael Brecker, and John Coltrane. He began within the violin when he was four (his grandfather was a cellist and his dad a violinist using the Detroit Symphony), researched traditional piano for a little bit, and also performed oboe before switching to tenor in senior high school. He went to Wayne State College or university, Berklee, the College or university of Miami, and lastly Loyola College or university in New Orleans, where he resided and performed for four years. Margitza toured with Maynard Ferguson and in addition Flora Purim and Airto before shifting to NY in 1988. He spent portion of 1988 in Kilometers Davis’ group and cut three models as a innovator for Blue Notice during 1989-1991. His 1994 outing for Problem found Margitza displaying increasing individuality.
