Ras Michael & the Sons of Negus

b. Michael George Henry, c.1943, Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. Henry was raised inside a Rastafarian community at St. Mary where he discovered hand-drumming, eventually learning to be a master-drummer. In the first 60s, he created the Sons Of Negus, a Rastafarian band of drummers and performers. In the middle-60s he founded his personal Zion Disk label, and began to launch a group of singles including ‘Lion Of Judah’, ‘Ethiopian Country wide Anthem’ and ‘Salvation’. These recordings, which the group is normally augmented by acoustic guitar and bass, display a remarkable amount of invention and subtlety. Around 1966, he documented at Studio room One like a percussionist, using Jackie Mittoo AS WELL AS THE Soul Vendors in trade for studio room period. In the first 70s he documented Dadawah Serenity And Love, which his group was augmented by studio room musicians, a mixture of Rastafarian chant, reggae, southern spirit and psychedelia significantly improved by its imaginative plans.
