Poirier

Using a wide-ranging style that draws from dancehall and soca to grime and hip-hop, Poirier can be an electronic dance music DJ/manufacturer from Montreal who garnered critical acclaim upon joining the Ninja Tune roster in the later 2000s. Blessed Ghislain Poirier, he produced his full-length documenting debut using the record Il N’y a Pas de Sud in the label 12k in 2001. In following years, he released albums on labels Intr_edition (Sous le Manguier, 2002; Conflits, 2003), and Delicious chocolate Sectors (Beats as Politics, 2003; Breakupdown, 2005), not forgetting a couple of 12″ singles, one-off compilation monitors, and remixes on a number of other underground brands. Poirier’s big break emerged when he was provided an opportunity to record for Ninja Melody, among the digital dance community’s longest working and most reputed labels. He produced his debut in the label using the Blazin’ EP in 2007, accompanied by the full-length record No Surface Under in 2008. He released a trio of EPs on Ninja Listen in 2009, specifically Soca AUDIO SYSTEM, Operate the Riddim, and Low Ceiling. His second full-length record in the label, Running Great (2010), was a double-disc work that put together previously released EP monitors along with brand-new materials and remixes.
