Depestre performed violin from age five, and was just 13 when he became a member of the popular Orquesta Aragón in Havana, Cuba. A dazzling and exhilarating instrumentalist, then worked with additional rings in Havana and Santiago de Cuba, like the Maravillas De Florida as well as the Orquesta Tipica De Juventud.
