b. Pedro Depestre Gonzalez, June 1945, Cienfugos, Cuba, d. 8 Apr 2001, Basel, Switzerland. Depestre performed violin from age five, and was just 13 when he became a member of the popular Orquesta Aragón in Havana, Cuba. A dazzling and exhilarating instrumentalist, then worked with additional rings in Havana and Santiago de Cuba, like the Maravillas De Florida as well as the Orquesta Tipica De Juventud. He was also energetic in radio and tv studios and constructed a solid status not merely with followers of Cuban music but additionally among his peers.
