Olga Konkova

Created and raised in Moscow, Russia, and located in Oslo, Norway, Olga Konkova can be an acoustic post-bop pianist/composer whose affects range between Herbie Hancock and John Lewis to Expenses Evans, Chick Corea, and Keith Jarrett. Konkova, who mementos an extremely clean and crystalline design of pianism, can be much like Ahmad Jamal as well as the underrated Walter Norris. Like Norris, Konkova is well known for taking main liberties with familiar melodies — while additional jazz music artists don’t really begin to improvise until once they play the melody/theme (or “mind,” in jazz terminology), Konkova begins to earnestly improvise when her fingers contact the keyboard. As a result, she could make even probably the most familiar specifications sound new. Konkova, who began acquiring piano lessons at age seven, wasn’t usually a full-time jazz musician; we were young in Moscow, she performed mostly traditional piano. Konkova analyzed traditional piano and structure in the Russian Academy of Music, graduating in 1993. However, not long from then on, she relocated to Boston to review jazz for just two semesters in the exclusive Berklee University of Music. After that, within the middle-’90s, Konkova remaining the U.S. and relocated to Oslo (where she wedded Norwegian bassist Per Mathisen, the sibling of saxophonist Ole Mathisen). In the past due ’90s, Konkova documented two albums for the English Candid label: Her Perspective (the pianist’s 1st launch) and North Crossings.
