Trumpeter Mickey McMahan remains to be most widely known for his decade-plus stint on television’s The Lawrence Welk Display. Given birth to Clinton McMahan in Tx on August 23, 1930, he was raised in Arizona, understanding how to play the trumpet from his mom, who herself discovered the device in the orphanage where she grew up. After a stint in the U.S. Military McMahan resolved in LA, and through the past due ’50s he authorized on with Les Brown’s Music group of Renown, in those days the house music group on NBC’s pioneering Steve Allen Display. He also became a member of Brown for some USO tours to get comedian Bob Wish. In 1967 McMahan was called to the 1st trumpet placement on ABC’s The Lawrence Welk Display, providing alongside players including accordionist/associate conductor Myron Floren, guitarist Friend Merrill, and violinist Bob Lido — McMahan continued to be using the series until creation finished in 1982 upon Welk’s pension. In old age, McMahan continued executing in nightclubs over the Los Angeles region. He passed away at his Truck Nuys house of problems from neuropathy and an unrelated bloodstream disease on June 11, 2008.
