Kemani Tatyos Efendi

The court composer for Turkey’s sultan Abdul Hammid II, Kemani Tatyos Efendi lay down the foundations of classical Turkish music. A prolific composer, Efendi had written a multitude of instrumental and vocal items including xarkis or artwork tracks, saz semais, and pexruvs. The Kudsi Erguner Outfit paid homage to Efendi with two albums — Instrumental Functions and Vocal Masterpieces — released in 1996.
