Johnny Grimes

A vocalist and occasional bandleader named Johnny Grimes haunts the first days of place bands and American golf swing, singing in a method which the picky discographer Tom Lord considered jazz in 1937 but ultimately from the rowdier aspect of the united states scene. Grimes continued to produce a one of “WHO’LL You Cry to After that” for the Ruler label and afterwards collaborated on composing country & traditional western songs like the exasperating “Bawlin’ Baby” as well as the obstinate “Gonna Stay THE FOLLOWING,” sometimes together with a number of from the Horton brothers, better known in honky tonk circles as Bobby Horton and, specifically, Johnny Horton. This isn’t the same John Grimes who takes on trumpet within the Wayne Dark brown record entitled “State It Loud, I’m Dark and I’m Happy,” neither is it the man who engineered fresh wave rock information from the middle-’80s. Obviously, the recordings created by the Bogan’s Birmingham Busters music group will need to have been regarded as “new influx” by someone; credits from these 1937 Vocalion classes indicate the current presence of three vocalists altogether aswell as many instrumentalists, included in this pianist Robert McCoy. The group got its name from traditional female blues vocalist Lucille Bogan, whose boy was nominally in control. Mom apparently handled this group aswell as performing, but under no circumstances on record. These look like the initial discographical spottings of Grimes, hinting at an Alabama source. A few of his Traditional western swing performances are available on compilations through the ’30s.
