John Forster

The humor and wit that produced Tom Lehrer and Shel Silverstein popular in the 1960s is resurrected through the songs of John Forster. Furthermore to making three amusing folk-rooted single albums — Getting into Marion, Helium and THE STATE Bootleg Record — Forster provides produced and created music for award-winning children’s albums by Tom Chapin, Rosenschantz as well as the Olsen Twins. Forster’s music are also highlighted on Broadway and in off-Broadway musicals and musical revues. Forster started writing music while participating in Harvard School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he gained an undergraduate level in music. He founded the school’s long-running revue The Proposition and composed several musical displays for the Hasty Pudding Movie theater. In 1988, Forster started his long cooperation with Tom Chapin as manufacturer and key songwriter of Chapin’s Family members Circle award-winning record Family members Tree. He eventually produced and composed music for the Chapin albums Moonboat (1989), NATURE (1990), Billy the Squid (1992), Zag Zig (1994) and IN MY OWN CITY (1998). Although he had not been the manufacturer, Forster also composed several music for Chapin’s 1996 record, All over the world and AGAIN. His association using the Olsen Twins started using the 1992 recording Brother ON THE MARKET and continued using the albums I Am the Cute One (1993) and present Us a Secret (1994). Forster created and wrote tunes for Rosenschantz’s albums VACATION (1989) and Uh-Oh (1990), and Expenses Schantz’s solo work Animal Stories (1991). Forster’s lyrics had been noticed in the Broadway display In to the Light in 1986, and his tunes had been in the off-Broadway displays Upstairs at O’Neals and Pretzels, as well as the Goodspeed Opera Organization production The Desire Group.
