Joachim Kühn

Although not really a free jazz musician, by itself, Kuhn continues to be an avant-gardist; he started trying a fusion of modern traditional components with jazz extremely early in his profession. Kuhn’s extreme virtuosity is usually a representation of his teaching. He studied traditional structure and piano for 12 years, starting when he was a little kid. He performed like a traditional pianist until 1961, of which stage he started playing inside a Prague-based jazz quintet. He led a trio from 1962-1966, and in 1964 started using his much-older sibling Rolf Kuhn, an achieved clarinetist. In the ’70s, Joachim Kuhn led his personal groups, and used the violinist Jean-Luc Ponty. Kuhn experienced a way of measuring commercial achievement in the ’70s. His superstar faded a little in the ’80s, but Kuhn held active, playing complicated types of jazz and documenting sometimes. A 1997 discharge, Shades: Live From Leipzig, a duo with Ornette Coleman, helped energy new fascination with Kuhn; both guys were in best form as well as the album received exceptional reviews.
