b. 30 July 1875, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, Britain, d. 5 Feb 1922, London, Britain. Tate and his half-sister Margaret wished for traditional music professions; she became popular as opera vocalist Maggie Teyte. Tate considered songwriting, becoming extremely effective. He staged several musical displays and was orchestral conductor for most. Early in his profession he fulfilled and wedded music hall celebrity, Lottie Collins (b. 1865, d. 1910), with whom he toured in The White Blackbird (1898). In 1902 he staged Coralie Et Cie on her behalf in the Islington Grand Theater, London. A number of the tunes that he made up the music had been interpolated into musicals: ‘Instinct’ and ‘And Therefore Do Eve’, in Sergeant Brue (1904), with lyricist Ballard MacDonald he published the immensely well-known ‘If I WILL Plant A LITTLE Seed Of Like (In YOUR GARDEN Of Your Center)’ (1909), and similarly effective was 1914’s ‘I Was AN EXCELLENT Little Girl Right up until I Met You’, with Clifford Harris. Between 1913 and 1916 Tate made up for revues such as for example I Should Be concerned, A Year WITHIN AN Hour, Examples (the second option including his track ‘Broken Doll’), Some (that came ‘Ev’ry Small While’), This WHICH (which starred his fresh wife Clarice Mayne), and Large Jinks. In 1917 Tate was asked to create additional tunes for The Maid FROM THE Mountains through the display’s Manchester tryout. These tunes, which he collaborated with Harris and Arthur Valentine, had been ‘My Life Is usually Like’, ‘A Heaven For Two’ and ‘A Bachelor Homosexual Am I’. The second option track became his most long lasting contribution towards the cannon of United kingdom musical humor. The display starred José Collins, who was simply Tate’s stepdaughter during his relationship to her mom, Lottie. Other displays to which Tate added tracks are Lads FROM THE Village, THE WONDER Place, for both which he once again collaborated with Harris and Valentine, (both 1917), Peep Present (1921, with Herman Finck and reserve by Laurie Wylie), Swindell’s Shops (1921, with Valentine), and Circular In 50 (1922, with Finck). Of the, Peep Present, which starred Leslie Sarony, Stanley Lupino and Mona Vivian, was the most effective, working for 417 shows. Quickly before his loss of life Tate caused Wylie on Dance Mad, which toured in 1923 starring Wallace Lupino. Among Tate’s afterwards tracks are ‘Someplace In France With You’ (with Arthur Anderson and Valentine), and ‘Provide Me A Cosy Small Corner’ as well as the ‘Honeymoon vacation Glide’ (both with Harris).
