Jack Montrose

Tenor saxophonist and composer Jack port Montrose was a leading exponent from the Western Coast jazz motion. His terse phrasing and easy tone stay the quintessence of California awesome. Born Dec 30, 1928, in Detroit, Montrose spent the first many years of the Depressive disorder in Chicago until poverty pressured his family members to relocate to Chattanooga, TN. Upon teaching himself saxophone he became a member of an area dance music group at age 14, and after many trips of the South he relocated to Southern California, where in 1947 he became a member of the John Kirby Sextet, starting an extended and fertile cooperation with Kirby’s baritone saxophonist, Bob Gordon. Montrose continuing dealing with Kirby while their studies at Los Angeles Condition College, and following the bandleader’s 1952 loss of life he backed Shorty Rogers and Artwork Pepper. Upon graduating in 1953, Montrose gained notoriety like a program musician and arranger, adding to times headlined by Chet Baker, Clifford Dark brown, and Dave Pell. After coming back from a six-month tour with Stan Kenton in middle-1954, Montrose reunited with Gordon for the Pacific Jazz LP Meet up with Mr. Gordon.
