With inventive re-imaginings from the reggae-splashed hook-heavy soul popularized by acts like Sean Paul and Sean Kingston in the first half from the 21st century’s 1st decade, Virgin Islands-born singer Iyaz swiftly developed a hearty cult following on MySpace. Kingston, along the way of developing his own Period Is Cash label, discovered Iyaz’s site and purchased the 21-year-old vocalist as the maiden signee of his fresh imprint. Iyaz’s debut solitary, “Replay,” an iPod name-checking musical stew that added splashes of traditional and electronica to his typical isle pop, soared to number 2 around the Billboard Warm 100 in November 2009.
