After departing Peterson, Ellis toured a little with Ella Fitzgerald; became a studio room musician over the Western world Coast; made periods using the Dukes of Dixieland, Stuff Smith, and Charlie Byrd; and in the 1970s became a lot more mixed up in jazz world. He is able to be heard over the initial three releases released with the Concord label, getting together with Joe Spread the original two, and he toured with the fantastic Guitars (alongside Byrd and Barney Kessel) through a lot of the 1970s in to the ’80s. Following a long group of Concord albums, Ellis trim several excellent sessions within the 1990s for Justice, in addition to 1999’s Burnin’ on Acoustic Music. After fighting Alzheimer’s disease, Supplement Ellis passed away at age 88 at his house in LA on March 28, 2010.
