Harumi Makino Smith

Poet Harumi Makino Smith has recorded her readings of first poetry with music artists including Wadada Leo Smith, Joseph Jarman and George Lewis. Delivered in Hokkaido, Japan, she started composing poetry and novellas during senior high school. In 1993, Harumi released her first reserve of poems, Usagi No Mimi. Four years afterwards, she finished a novella entitled Mashiri No Gotoku. Harumi frequently provides live readings of her poetry, and documented reading for Wadada Leo Smith’s 1996 Tzadik discharge, Tao-Njia, his 1998 discharge on Wobbly Rail, Condor, Fall Wind flow, and his follow-up on Tzadik another season, Light Upon Light. Harumi in addition has collaborated with music artists including John Tchicai, George Lewis, Thurman Barker, Joseph Jarman and Nels Cline.
