Haruomi Hosono, overshadowed by his Yellow Magic Orchestra bandmate Ryuichi Sakamoto, has still forged a distinctive route through ambient music, building over the advances created by the soundscapes of Brian Eno through the ’70s, though he recorded his initial album before Eno had also joined up with Roxy Music.
