Gretchen Parlato

Vocalist Gretchen Parlato is really a forward-thinking jazz singer with an emotive, languid design along with a bent toward combining various musical affects into a contemporary creative jazz cosmetic. A California indigenous, Parlato was raised listening to a number of musical styles before concentrating on jazz. In 2001, Parlato became the very first vocalist ever accepted in to the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Efficiency. Three years later on, she earned first place within the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocals Competition. Subsequently, she’s appeared on the bevy of additional performers’ albums, including recordings by bassist Esperanza Spalding, pianist Kenny Barron, and trumpeter Terence Blanchard, amongst others. In 2005, she released her debut self-employed self-titled recording. In ’09 2009, she shipped her sophomore recording, In a Fantasy, featuring support by Western African guitarist Lionel Loueke. Parlato came back in 2011 using the recording Lost and Found out, offering pianists Taylor Eigsti and Robert Glasper. In 2013, Parlato released the concert recording Reside in NYC, which presented her carrying out at NY City’s Rockwood Hall in 2012.
