Gonzalez

Gonzalez was a loosely knit, British-based aggregate having a revolving-door regular membership of from 10 to 30 players. Their niche was a mainly instrumental melange of funk, jazz, spirit, and (later on) disco, though they do use vocalists for chosen tracks of all of the albums. Their primary early regular membership contains saxophonists Mick Eve, Chris Mercer, and Geoffrey “Bud” Beadle, keyboardist Roy Davies, and guitarist Gordon Hunte; collectively, their earlier credits included Georgie Fame’s Blue Flames, Juicy Lucy, John Mayall, Keef Hartley, as well as the Night-Timers, amongst others. First convening in 1971, Gonzalez grew to add bassist DeLisle Harper, trumpeter Ron Carthy, saxophonist Steve Gregory, drummers Richard Bailey and Glen LeFleur, and vocalist George Chandler (amongst others) by enough time they released their self-titled debut recording on EMI-Capitol in 1974.
