Goapele

Created Goapele Mohlabane in Oakland, CA, this singer was raised inside a socially conscious and politically dynamic family. Her mom wedded South African politics exile Douglas Mohlabane while learning in Nairobi, Kenya. Young, Goapele went to the Berkeley Arts Magnet College where she led a pre-teen peer support group. She also became involved with various organizations and companies that combated racism and sexism. It might be these extroverted actions that aided her singing profession as she’d also sing at community features. In senior high school, Goapele sang within the Oakland Youngsters Choir and became section of a semi-professional group known as Vocal Movement. Upon senior high school graduation, she went to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she researched music theory. She also started developing her songwriting abilities during her post-secondary education. In the summertime of 2001, Goapele was authorized to Skyblaze Recordings and finished her debut recording. After completing the record, she toured THE UNITED STATES with Spearhead. She came back towards the studio room in 2002 to begin with focus on her second record.
