Small UK indie pop band which is certainly perhaps most obviously for featuring Carl (later on Karl) Hyde (b. 10 Might 1957, Worcester, Worcestershire, Britain) and Rick Smith (b. Richard Smith, 25 Might 1959, Ammanford, Wales), who go on release a a few of the most seminal dance music from the 90s as Underworld. Hyde and Smith originally proved helpful together in the first 80s as the Display screen Gemz, having fulfilled while at university in Cardiff, Wales. They shaped Freur with guitarist Alfie Thomas. They extended their line-up with drummer Bryn Burrows (ex-Fabulous Poodles) and key pad player/video master John Warwicker. The quintet re-emerged in 1988 having a different documenting contract and a fresh name, Underworld.
