Four Below Zero

Four Below No, a fresh York-based quartet comprising Dornell Chavous, Moses McNeil, Cleveland Dickerson, and Harry Watson, had grandiose dreams of stardom that went unfulfilled. Equipped with music, they caught the eye of Patrick Adams and authorized with the maker/article writer/arranger’s P&P label in 1974; the music, “Inform Me Why (WE CAN NOT Be Close friends)” produced some sound in NY but never produced a whimper beyond your city. Another P&P one, “My Baby’s Got E.S.P.,” compiled by Adams, John Cooksey, Eugene Lemon, and Fay Hauser, slipped in 1976 and do better locally. This allowed Adams to permit it with Roulette Information for mass distribution that however didn’t amass a lot of anything apart from providing some money for uniforms and some doodads. Favored by collectors, you’ll find it on some go for Northern spirit compilations. Nothing at all else by Four Below No connected plus they shortly disbanded. McNeil delved into songwriting, albeit unsuccessfully. Fay Hauser, among the authors of “ESP,” documented solo before getting into a successful performing career.
