Fire Engines

While something of the same Scottish post-punk motion that also gave rise to Orange Juice and Josef K, Fire Engines were a lot more abrasive and discordant than their pop revivalist brethren, forsaking melodies and hooks and only noise and fury. Open fire Engines created in Edinburgh in 1979; three of its founders — vocalist/guitarist Davey Henderson, bassist Graham Primary, and drummer Russel Burn off — had been previously within the Filthy Reds. Rounded out by guitarist Murray Slade, the quartet required its name from a 13th Ground Elevators track and debuted in past due 1980 using the primal “GET RIGHT UP and Make use of Me,” released around the Codex Marketing communications label. Packaged inside a plastic material carrier bag, Open fire Motors’ manic debut LP, OIL UP YOUR FAMILY ROOM (VOCALS to use it People!), made an appearance in early 1981. A following proceed to the Pop: Aural label led to the solitary “Candyskin,” an about-face that forced Henderson’s long-buried nose vocals towards the fore and also launched a string section. Codex Teenage Premonition, released 13 years later on, put together demos and live materials.
