Farewell J.R. started existence as the single project of English songwriter Nick Rayner. He decamped to his hometown in Cambridge during 2012 for what he thought to be “some essential time to become only” and consequently began composing music. The tracks he wrote during this time period evoked the first emotive sound of Justin Vernon’s Bon Iver, however they turned out to be something a lot more ambitious. Rayner got recorded a small number of stripped-back, acoustic folk paths before he added Sam McNicholl (drums, percussion), Josh Sampson (drums, percussion), and Sonny Sampson (bass) to full the lineup. This allowed Rayner to increase his audio with cinematic soundscapes and grand melodies which were similar to Arcade Fire as well as the Country wide, while still harnessing the delicate refrain the tracks originally encompassed within their uncooked type. In early 2013 the solitary “A Idea, A Brain” was presented on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 section Next Buzz.
